About The Digital Media Tools Guide

Your IRIX™ software includes a suite of end user digital media tools that enable you to capture, edit, record, play, compress, and convert audio, video, or image files. Applications for these programs include developing and editing digital media files to put on Web pages, creating material for multimedia presentations, and playing or creating content for movies and CD-ROMs. This online book is your guide to using this software.

Chapter 1, "Media Recorder," describes how to use the Media Recorder program to capture audio, video input, and still images.

Chapter 2, “Media Convert,” describes how to use Media Convert to change the format, compression scheme, and other parameters of audio, video, and image files.

Chapter 3, "Movie Maker," describes how to use Movie Maker, a program for creating movies. Movie Maker includes a title palette for adding titles to your movies as well as a plug-in for creating 3D filters.

Chapter 4, "Media Player," describes how to use Media Player, a tool for playing movie and audio files.

Chapter 5, “Sound Track,” describes how to use Sound Track, a program that lets you record sound and build and edit multitrack audio compositions.

Chapter 6, “Sound Player,” describes how to use Sound Player, which plays audio files.

Chapter 7, “CD Player,” describes how to use CD Player, a program for playing, displaying, and capturing audio from compact discs.

Chapter 8, “DAT Player,” describes how to use DAT Player, a program for playing, displaying, and capturing audio from Digital Audio Tapes.

Chapter 9, "CD Manager," describes how to use the CD Manager tool, which lets you play and record from a compact disc drive attached to your workstation SCSI port.

Chapter 10, "DAT Manager," describes how to use the DAT Manager tool, which lets you play and record to and from DAT tapes on a DAT drive attached to your workstation SCSI port.

Chapter 11, “MIDI Keyboard,” describes MIDI Keyboard, a graphical tool for the sound synthesis process.

Chapter 12, “Synthesizer Panel,” describes the Synthesizer Panel, a tool that can be used for auditioning and experimenting with sounds, as well as monitoring sounds as they are generated by the software MIDI synthesizer or by an external MIDI device.

Chapter 13, “Sound Editor,” describes how to use Sound Editor, a tool for creating and editing single-track audio files.

This guide also includes Appendix A, “The Video Panel,” Appendix B, “The Audio Panel,” and Appendix C, “General MIDI Sound Sets and Percussion Maps.”
