About the Viewer Settings

Use the “Viewer Tab” to change the history settings for your Silicon Graphics web browser or enable/disable JavaScript.

History

History records all your visited URL addresses in the history database and colors your visited links. The history length is the number of days those URL addresses are stored in the history database, and the length of time those links remain colored. Setting the history length too high may slow your Silicon Graphics web browser down.

Use the Empty History Now button to reset the history database. This database colors your visited links for as many days as you specified in the history text field.

The history database is found by default in the $HOME/.web directory. You cannot view this database but you can view the .web directory contents by opening your directory viewer (see details about the cache location folder in the “Caching and Fetching Tab” section).

JavaScript

JavaScript allows a variety of image animation and interaction to occur when viewing the World Wide Web. If you disable JavaScript (default is enabled), web pages running it will not function properly, and no animation will occur. However, some animation does not require JavaScript and will animate regardless.

If you are concerned with security issues or if your regularly visited pages do not use JavaScript, then you should disable it. However, most of the Web utilizes JavaScript, which is why the default is enabled.
