Device Status from MEDIAD Indicates That the Device is Currently In Use

The Confidence test has detected that the mediad daemon status indicates that the device is already in use. Verify that the device is not in use. Remove the floppy or CD with the eject command, place a writable scratch tape or floppy or CD in the drive, and try the test again. If the test fails and the device is not in use, stop and restart the mediad daemon.

To stop the mediad daemon, log in as root and issue the following command:

# /etc/init.d/mediad stop

This stops the mediad daemon until you execute the same script with the start command to restart it, as follows:

# /etc/init.d/mediad start

If stopping and restarting the mediad daemon doesn't resolve the problem try rebooting the system and executing the test again.

For additional information, see the mediad(1M) man page, or from the desktop on-line books, select SGI_EndUser Personal System Administration Guide, Media Tools Users Guide, or SGI_Admin IRIX Advanced Site and Server Administration Guide and then use the “Find” keyword, “mediad.” For additional questions or assistance, contact your local support provider.
