The Confidence test could not access the device file for the selected device type (CD-ROM, tape, or floppy). When a physical device is added to the system, a device file is created that contains the necessary information for the IRIX operating system to access and communicate with the device. The device file is created by using the MAKEDEV(1M) command located in the /dev directory.
