Creating a File Folder on Your OutBox Web Page

Files that you choose to publish on your OutBox Web page are saved in the /usr/people/yourusername/public_html directory. You can create sub-directories within this directory if you want to sort files by topic. For example, if you have some files that relate to a project called “Zip,” and some other files that relate to a project called “Zap,” you can create subdirectories called Zip and Zap. These directories appear as folder icons on your OutBox page. When you publish files related to “Zip” and “Zap,” you can choose to place them in these folders rather than directly on your OutBox page.

If you want to publish a hidden folder, the folder will appear in the public_html directory as hidden. It will not appear on your OutBox page. You can use a hidden folder to store images or documents that you use in your OutBox pages but don't want to appear in the OutBox file listing.

When your OutBox page is first created, two folders named Public and Miscellaneous are created for you as examples. These folders can be renamed, or deleted at any time.

To create a subdirectory and add the folder to your Web page:

  1. Click the Directory button in OutBox.

    The /usr/people/yourusername/public_html directory appears.

  2. Choose “New Directory” from the Selected menu.

A folder icon labeled empty.dir appears in the window.

  3. Type in a name for the new directory and press <Enter>.

To see the new folder on your Web page, click the Web Page button in OutBox. Now when you publish a file, you can choose to place it in the folder you created.

You can restrict access to the contents of a folder by making it accessible to specific users or hosts and inaccessible to other specific users or hosts. See your Web server administration documentation for more information.
